Humidity can be a nuisance, but even more importantly, moisture levels can have a big impact on the quality of your indoor air and your home comfort levels. The United States Environmental Protection Agency suggests families maintain proper humidity levels, saying it is an important and simple way that you can improve your indoor air quality.
As it turns out, you have control.
The best thing to do is to intergrate a whole-house humidifier and dehumidifier system. Humidity levels between 35% and 50% are preferred for comfort, experts say. But if you desire an environment that doesn’t include microbes and that won’t damage wood, the humidity levels would ideally be kept between 45% and 50%. Humidity should be balanced properly to keep you home at the right amount.
- Higher Levels of Moisture – Air may feel stuffy and warmer than the actual temperature in your home and can provide the perfect foundation for the growth of bacteria and other pollutants.
- Lower Levels of Moisture – Your body may react by experiencing dry skin, sore throats and respiratory issues. Dry air may also harm your wooden home furnishings, such as floors, paneling and furniture.
