NATE is the certification organization that was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVACR industry for approximately 20 years. But, not all technicians in the field have to be NATE-Certified. The certification is elective and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being NATE-Certified.
