When you want heating, air conditioning or plumbing services from Service Experts Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing, you will handle the trip charge and a diagnostic fee separately. A number of companies you’ve hired in the past might have combined the trip charge and diagnostic fee, but we believe we can provide you with even more value by separating them.
A trip charge handles the cost for a certified plumber or HVAC technician to stop by your home. Occasionally called a service call fee, this charge is the base rate for bringing our technicians, equipment and expertise to your front door. If you’d like to cut out the trip charges in the future, you can consider joining one of our membership programs.
The diagnostic fee pays for the services necessary to locate the source of a problem. For plumbing, this may include scoping. During HVAC repairs, it could involve examining the inside of your system. If you prefer to use Service Experts Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing for the repairs, the diagnostic fee is rolled into the repair bill. However, you are charged for the diagnostic services alone if you do not.
Generally speaking, a trip fee covers sending the plumber or HVAC technician to your home, while the diagnostic fee addresses all the work concerned with assessing the problem and figuring out a plan for repairs. If you pay for repairs, you won’t even notice the diagnostic fee since it will be included with the cost of the repairs.
Many plumbers and HVAC companies are going to charge a single fee for both the trip and the diagnostics. Rather than charging you for two services at once, we opt for two separate fees. This enables us to price our services in the fairest possible manner.
